Hi friends!
I am back and ready to give you an update on life and boy is it a good one for you. First, the boys and I got to spend five weeks back in Michigan. It was amazing to spend time with our friends and family there. We made a pit stop in Ohio on our way up and saw some friends that we met when we lived in Tennessee. We went to baseball games, the zoo, swam, played, I got a couple new tattoos and had the best summer in Michigan. Now that we are back in Georgia, we found out some news.
As I may or may not have mentioned before, my husband is in the Army. Part of being in the military community means we have to move every couple of years. Since we got married, we have lived in three different states in the last six years. We are about to add a fourth state to that list. At the beginning of next year, we are packing things up in the south and heading 4,500 miles west to a little place known as Hawaii.
That’s right, you heard it here first. The Myers family is heading to the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii!
If I am being honest, I am struggling with this one. I have really mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the kids and I love to be outside; hiking, swimming at the beach, picnics, etc. So I think it will be so much fun to be there. The weather is warm and sunny (mostly) year round. We will be able to be outside a ton and have the opportunity to learn about new things. On the other hand, I am really struggling with being so far away from my friends and family. I am very close with my family and this is going to be a hard one. Not only is it just physical distance, Hawaii is 5 to 6 hours behind the Eastern Time Zone. The time difference is going to be a big adjustment. It is very expensive to fly to and from the island. Making it financially hard on us and anyone who wants to come see us. With mostly being a one income household, taking trips often to the mainland will be hard. I am praying that it will be easier than I think it will, but if not, I am going to really struggle once we are there.
This is going to be our biggest move yet. In the past we have always rented a truck or used PODS and moved ourselves. But with how big this move is, that will not be an option. We will be having the military move us, which is going to be a crazy experience all together. While the move is still months away, I am already starting to stress about everything that has to be done. We have to get the house packed up, get the dogs approved to move with us, and the boys and I have to be medically cleared to go as well. This list just goes on and on. Honestly, I already feel like I am behind. So starting tomorrow, we are in full Hawaii prep in this household.
So buckle up friends, we are about to go on a crazy ride. I plan to walk you all through it and share all the dirty details of large military moves.
Until next time,
XOXO
